Each time someone requests a yard sign from us, we ask why they do not support this bond. Of the hundreds of comments we've received, here are our favorites:

"Fear tactics on a massive bond with entirely too many moving parts. The pro bond advertising paid by construction companies is very concerning and makes me suspicious of the deals getting pushed through. Historic preservation is slighted in favor of sprawl. Think of the library, downtown restoration, etc and the very real fiscal benefits that have trickled down because we invested in historic structures. Provo’s history is literally one of its best assets. Other Utah cities show us what sprawl looks like when land developers are in charge."

"The overuse of bonds is fiscally irresponsible, leaves millions in debt for our children and encourages overdevelopment. The bond and current plans fail to adequately address growth and the construction bids are inflated. There are numerous other and better ways to accomplish the underlying purpose. They have used fear tactics and fabricated urgency to try and get the bond passed."

"Very disappointed in the Dixon decision; also discouraged by the Yes campaign's strategy--the fear factor."

"This bond benefits the wealthy at the expense of the poor. The northeast area gets a brand new Timpview high school while Dixon Middle is being moved from the poor central area. Solidifying economic inequities is not the proper role of government."

"I think the money being asked for is too much for the communities to bear, especially in light of some other options that could be considered and implemented. The Timpview rebuild would cost two times as much as the construction cost for Provo High School. This is unreasonable."

"We don't have the money for another bond. Just like in my household, we need to look for solutions we can afford. Also I despise fear mongering and propping "THE CHILDREN" up as bait for a campaign."

"Because Provo School District doesn't plan things like this bond very well and rush into everything. Since I moved here my property taxes have tripled in 10 years. I was paying $525 a year and now I pay $1,485. I don't want them going up another $700 a year."

"We don't need to be spending 145 million to build a new Timpview High School. That's way too expensive!"

"The citizens of Provo cannot afford this at this time and Timpview High School can be repaired!"

"People on low and fixed incomes can't afford all the bonds we already have. The Board is greedy, evidenced by its finagling to take Bounous Park for unnecessary things. If and when this bond passes, their wish list has more schools, maybe the district offices, to be fixed or replaced."

"Sprawl sucks."

"I can't afford the tax!"

"Families have to live within their means. Reduce luxuries, fix up, make do. School board needs to research and find better ways to utilize buildings instead of just asking for more money."

"There are better solutions. Dixon should not be moved. Timpview should be fixed over time, not replaced."

"Because Dixon should not be moved. We have a lot of families in this neighborhood."

"Because while I believe schools should be safe, I also believe that you shouldn't shoot from the hip or pay pots of money and ask questions later. This bond needed to have been studied out more."

"The bond is too expensive and not well planned."

"I think the School Board has been disingenuous about the plan to move Dixon--I think it should stay in it's current location."

"I think Provo School District needs to use more sense in how they spend our money. Building that new football field at Provo High and then deserting it to build a new high school is just one example."

"We can't afford another bond. I feel like this is just Timpview envious of the new Provo high. Because all of a sudden the sky is falling, after PHS was getting finished. This doesn't count what we are paying already for the other bonds, school and city."

"Rebuilding Timpview on site is not an option due to the shifting. If they think they can prevent the hill from sliding, they are fools. In addition, we were lied to when we voted to rebuild Provo High on-site, and they moved it, and sold the property. Very bitter about this."
